According to our form of government in Richland, major decisions concerning the city are made by the city council, not the planning commission or the city staff. Unlike the city council, members of staff and commissions are not elected by the citizens of Richland. The council members are there to represent the wishes of their constituents.
If letters to the editor are any indication of what the public wants concerning the Amon Basin area, the city council should respond to the wishes of the majority and not to the pressure of developers, who are not always interested in the preservation of places such as the Amon Basin.
