I've grown up in the Tri-Cities almost my entire life, and I love that our community comes together to support good causes. I was excited to hear about the Glow Run, a 5K night run/walk, being held for the third year on May 30. Because of sponsorships from local companies, the event's organizers will be donating almost the entire registration cost to the American Cancer Society.
I was saddened when I learned that a competing event is being held here this summer. This is also a night run and looks similar, but with one big difference: It is run by a national corporation that donates only a portion of the proceeds. I was further troubled to discover that when they were approached by the Glow Run coordinator about moving their event to avoid competition, they instead moved it to the Saturday before the Glow Run.
Last year, the Glow Run raised almost $20,000 for the American Cancer Society. So far, registrations are at only a fraction of that. I know there is confusion about which run is the one "everyone was talking about last year." Please, Tri-Cities, participate in the local, community-supported event that is doing so much good -- the Glow Run! For more information: glowrun5ktricities.eventbrite.com.
