A friend recently called me for help. An elderly, terminally ill friend of his was in the hospital and not expected to go home again. Help was needed for his friend's daily companion of 14 years -- Jake, a little black/white shih tzu dog.
Sadly, after being temporarily cared for by a kind-hearted gentleman, Jake was in need of a new home. I remembered and called a friend involved at the Columbia Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.), a 501(c)3 nonprofit, all-volunteer small organization dedicated to finding loving, caring families for abandoned and unwanted pets.
C.A.R.E.'s volunteers not only stepped up to the plate to help Jake, they also scored a home run! Their precious few volunteers put in countless hours to find a new home for Jake. He now lives happily with a local senior couple who seem to be very happy to be a part of Jake's life, just as he must be to be a part of theirs! Thank you, C.A.R.E. volunteers for all you do to aid our animal friends! Readers, please be encouraged to support C.A.R.E. however you can -- adopt a pet, donate your dollars, volunteer your time!
