It has come to my attention over the years that the postage rates for various groups are quite diverse. Most periodicals and "junk" mail have a very low rate.
I noticed recently that the postage for my ballot from the Benton County Auditor's Office was 48 cents. Most other government envelopes have similar full-rate postage.
Maybe someone can explain to me why the taxpayers have to pay full rates for important communications while the magazine companies, etc., get off for 10 cents to 18 cents per unit.
Perhaps if this inequality were corrected, the U.S. Postal Service could attain some sort of fiscal solvency.
Never miss a local story.
