What a joy to watch the Seahawk celebration parade and the continual credit given to the 12th man by players, coaches, politicians, and newspeople for the support they provided for the Super Bowl win.
However, based on legislation recently signed by Gov. Jay Inslee regarding gender-neutral vocabulary, it is important that from now on the Seahawk fan base shall be called the "12th Person."
Democrat state Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles envisioned the changes that replaced "fisherman" and "freshman" with "fisher" and "first-year student." Not to mention "journey-level plumber" now referred to as "journeyman" and "handwriting" in lieu of "penmanship." Quoting Kohl-Welles: "There's no good reason for keeping our legal terms anachronistic with words that do not respect our current contemporary times."
Any idea how much the taxpayer paid to make over 3,500 changes in the state code sections? So, who is going to lead legislation in these politically correct times to raise the flag next fall at CenturyLink Field for the "12th Person?" Inslee? Kohl-Welles?
Never miss a local story.
