I am writing this to raise awareness about a few things regarding rabbits as pets that I feel need to be heard. First of all they are one of the most misunderstood pets out there right now and most people don't realize just what a big commitment they are.
Rabbits can live up to 15 years, they need to be fixed, they need 3 to 4 hours of play time each day or they can become destructive. Most rabbits hate being picked up. Not all rabbits get along, yet they are very social so pairing them off is a little tricky. They can easily be litterbox trained. If a rabbit is in a bonded pair you do not separate them because they will sink into a deep depression, stop eating, have intestinal tract problems, possibly become aggressive and be miserable in general. There's nothing you do except put them back with the rabbit you separated them from. Once they bond with another rabbit, its a very strong bond end of story.
So this is just the tip of the iceberg. Before you run out and get your kid or yourself a rabbit, please pop online and read about them!
