If you were to take one million dollars in hundred dollar bills and lay them end to end, they would reach just about a mile. That is a long way and a million dollars is a lot of money.
Bill Gates has an estimated net worth of 78.5 billion dollars. How far do you think this amount would reach in hundred dollar bills? To the horizon? Across the United States? Neither of these is even close.
His wealth in hundred dollar bills would circle the earth three times. A jet plane flying at 500 miles per hour would take over six days to reach from one end to the other. Or, if you were to pick up one $100 bill each second for 24 hours a day, it would take you 25 years to pick them all up. (You would need a very large basket).
Indeed, 78.5 billion dollars is an obscene amount of wealth for an individual.
There is something fundamentally wrong with our society and its tax laws that allow any individual to amass that amount of wealth while millions of others struggle each day just to get by.
