The war in Iraq started with blazing quotes: "The war will be paid for with Iraqi oil." "They will welcome us with flowers." "Weapons of mass destruction," "Iraq is an al-Qaida supporter," and more. How in the world could so many people have been duped?
To paraphrase Shakespeare, the Iraq war was a "twice-told tale." In the Art of War, Sun Tzu states that a wise leader achieves his policy goals without accruing the cost of employing his army. Sounds un-American to me.
Now the conservative hawks are demanding that our ship of state plow into the Middle Eastern iceberg once again. "If we steer around it, the other icebergs will see us as weak."
