Letter: Colleges using ineffective teaching methods
Two of the most ineffective ways for students to learn is by lecture and by the book. This is no secret. So why is it that in college, where students spend thousands of their dollars each year for their education, the two lowest methods of learning are implemented? It can be a waste of time and money to go into a classroom and listen to a professor talk for an hour to only retain very little information.
Students are responsible for learning just as much as the teachers are responsible for teaching. What too many professors have settled for is presenting information rather than teaching it and making sure it is comprehensible. It is unfair for students to go to school every day only to be presented information. Information can be presented through Internet but we don't pay it for that. New teaching methods need to start being implemented in more classes to ensure that people are getting the education they are paying for.
