Letter: Congress should do the job we hired them to do
What's the federal government good for? The preamble to the U.S. Constitution claims it is "in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence[sic], promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity." So why would Congress and the House Republicans allow the government to shut down and hold the threat of default over our heads?
Does it make us more perfect? I don't think so. Surely it promises delays of justice, does not cause tranquility either foreign or domestic, is bad for our defense, and hurts the general welfare of the country and its citizens, and in no comprehensive way is it a blessing! Congress isn't doing its job. Let's tell our representatives to do the work we hired them for, to run the government for God's sake!
