Saturday night the theater was filled with excitement as 350 children and adults gathered to watch opening weekend of Shrek, being performed by ACT at Hanford HIgh.
When people were warned to stay in their seats or they could get run over by ogres, donkeys and other beings, the anticipation notably thickened. And we were not disappointed.
The music is modern and catchy, and sung by wonderful performers. One could listen to Patrick Smith (Shrek) sing all day long! If there was a show stealer, it was Kyle Cox. His "Donkey" was endearing, funny and engaging throughout the show! The most impressive aspect was that everyone was dedicated to their roles, from the Sugar Plum Fairy (Hannah Fewel) and Pinocchio (Trent Remington) to Papa and Mama Ogre (Scott Miller and Erin Ballo), who had amazing voices. The staging was interesting and fluid, making it very difficult to get bored or disengaged. Children as young as 3 sat for the entire show with no crying or fidgeting! Thanks for an impressive production, which all ages enjoyed.
Remaining performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday. It's not to be missed!
Never miss a local story.
