There is a continuing need to clean up the entry points into Richland, and more importantly, to improve the appearance of the major roadways through Richland. This is necessary to make our community look more respectable and inviting to those who visit and/or do business in this community.
So far, there appears to be about five blocks through the "downtown" area that have been improved. But, continuing north on George Washington Way, the dirt-covered sidewalks, weeds, dying trees and shrubs and falling fences persist.
And now for a bright idea based on the observation that Kadlec Regional Medical Center seems to have the money and vision to take old properties and make them look great. For starters, how about deeding George Washington Way, and about 10 feet on both sides from WINCO to the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, to Kadlec in exchange for renaming the street Kadlec Way? Rest assured that the street appearance would be promptly and properly improved.
So what do we do with the former street name? Another bright idea -- we have some new Richland schools being built and one of them should happily take on the title of George Washington Elementary.
Never miss a local story.
