The United States absolutely should launch a military operation against Syria. President Obama made a serious mistake in not launching a cruise missile strike to take out the chemical stockpiles, or at the very least, to punish the Syrian government for their use of chemical weapons.
For several days, Obama said that if proof could be found that the Syrian government was responsible for the chemical attack, we would act either in concert with our allies or alone, if need be, to destroy Syria's ability to launch further chemical strikes. While this proof was being gathered, the irresponsibility of Congress could be heard in the form of demands that Obama get their permission to do his job. I thought it was ridiculous that anyone in Congress could be unaware enough to actually believe that Obama needed their approval to exercise his sacred duty as a military commander.
Once the irrefutable evidence was found that the Syrian government was indeed responsible for the chemical attack, Obama blinked in the face of opposition, and caved. I believe an important opportunity was lost.
Like it or not, Barack Obama is president of the United States, and will remain so until January 20, 2017. It's time for Congress to stop focusing on trying to hurt him, and start thinking about what is best for the country. I believe had Congress kept quiet and let Obama do his job, he would have launched a massive cruise missile strike against Syria, and we would be thanking God that he had acted to destroy Syria's capability to gas innocent people.
Never miss a local story.
