The Republicans would have the American people believe their economic policies are good for the country. Let's look at the facts. Over the past 50 years, the Republicans have held the presidency for 28 years, and the Democrats 22 years. During their presidency, the Republicans created 24 million jobs, while the Democrats created 42 million. There was a 109 percent stock market return for the Republicans and a 992 percent return for Democrats. Annualized, the stock market return was 2.7 percent for Republicans and 11 percent for Democrats. Under Republican presidencies, the gross domestic product was 2.6 percent, while the Democrats was 4.1 percent. Income growth for Republicans was 0.6 percent, and Democrats was 2.2 percent.
All things being equal, like obstructive Congresses for both parties, there is no doubt that our country fairs better economically under Democratic presidencies. The current Ayn Rand and trickle down economic theories used by the Republicans and Tea Party folks just doesn't live up to the smell test. When only the rich can dictate policy for their own economic benefit, at the expense of the middle class, the poor, the environment and our country, then it is time for the People to demand a change of policy at the ballot box.
