On June 11th, our Hanson Park neighborhood was evacuated because of the huge fire that eventually burned more than 1,000 acres within a few hours. How the firefighters were able to prevent the wildfire from destroying a single home was a miracle!
More than 100 firefighters and 38 engines from around the Mid-Columbia, including Yakima and Walla Walla, rushed to southwest Kennewick to battle the wind-aided fire.
Police officers went door-to-door, evacuating the neighborhood, and directed traffic to ensure the safety of the residents.
Every person who I talked to about the fire mentioned the all-star efforts of the firefighters. It is appropriate to take a minute to say thanks to all of the firefighters and whomever else was involved in saving the neighborhood and possibly lives (humans and pets) as well.
Never miss a local story.
