Lots of opinions in your op-ed section weigh in with respect to Arlene's Flowers denying the sale of flowers to a gay couple for their marriage.
I am old enough to remember how, in the 1950s, many businesses discriminated against people of color by either denying them service or pointing them down the street. Today people might cringe at the idea of this ever happening in their community again; and yet I often had heard the justification of this practice based on biblical faith and the name of "Ham" liberally cited by Christians. No doubt the prejudice thus expressed hurt more people in those years than I imagined.
Here we are again, Santayana would say, using scripture to tell a section of our society how their biology is wrong for a cash register and this world ... because the Bible says so.
I gave up on Christianity long ago, the lessons of the '50s and Arlene's Flowers clarified why.
