I view the phrase, "The war on Terror," just as ludicrous as the wars on crime or drugs. How are those wars going? I haven't heard President Obama refer to al-Qaida as "on the run" lately. Have you? Are drugs still available in schools and prisons? Yes. And although crime is down per capita, there is evidence that it is just as much because of Roe v. Wade as it is to better enforcement techniques. Regardless, Are you satisfied with these results?
I haven't even mentioned the debt. Perhaps we should declare a war on that as well. After all, we are doing about as well on that.
These "wars" share some characteristics. We're using the wrong tactics, and it appears we are not serious about resolving them. Where is this country's will? And more importantly, where is its pride? This is a nation of problem solvers. Instead we are blaming each other.
News flash: We're all responsible. And the older we are, the larger our culpability. If we want to solve problems, we must get serious about priorities and leadership. To regain pride and purpose, sometimes it takes a lesson in humility. That goes for all of us.
