Whatever credibility the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) may have had has totally disappeared in light of the revelations of leftist politics targeting conservatives.
While I suspect there are some hard-working people of integrity at the IRS, the political scandal is shocking and outrageous! The whole agency is under suspicion.
In my mind, all government organizations must be above reproach and focused on their missions, but especially the IRS and others with positions of power.
I grew up in the '50s. At that time, we trusted government. Both my dad and my wife's father worked for the U.S. Forest Service. I was always impressed with the integrity, diligence and honesty of our parents' friends and co-workers. They worked to serve.
My concern today is that a culture of abusive power pervades many parts of government -- national, state and sometimes even local. Congress needs to act decisively and strongly.
But frankly, but I don't have too much more confidence in Congress than in the IRS. A group that passes a gigantic law they haven't read because of political pressure from on high cannot be trusted.
Our nation desperately needs help.
