Research medical options
My husband and I recently returned from Loma Linda, Calif., where we spent three months while he went through proton beam treatment for prostate cancer at the Loma Linda University Medical Center.
We feel that this is the best treatment for prostate cancer that there is. It provides the best quality of life both during and after treatment.
Men, if you are ever diagnosed with prostate cancer, please check out your options. Your Doctor will tell you about surgery, radiation, hormone depletion therapy, cryotherapy and seed implantation. He may not mention proton beam therapy or get angry if you choose to do it. Why? I don't know.
Do your homework. Talk to men who have had the various treatments. At Loma Linda, they treat the whole person, not just the disease. They treat more than 150 people every day. Unlike photon radiation, there is very little damage done to surrounding tissue with the proton beam. It is easily directed to a certain location and does not go beyond. We feel very fortunate to have been in the program.
