I would like to compliment Herald photographer Richard Dickin on his outstanding photograph in the May 15 edition.
It was taken at the Special Olympics in Richland and shows a young woman and her mother preparing for a 100 meter race -- walking to the finish line.
For most of us, not a big deal. Go back and take another look at the photo.
The mother with a reassuring hand on her daughter's shoulder and pointing toward the goal -- 100 meters
The young woman with a look of absolute joy and, yes, confidence on her face.
She can do it, 100 meters. She has her uniform, and she has her number. She is No. 17.
Brenda also has a special scarf causally tossed over her shoulder. A bit of panache for a young athlete. One hundred meters. She can do it.
Go back and take look. Thanks to Richard Dickin. we know what the Special Olympics is all about.
