I understand that times are tough all around, but the city of Pasco must be really hurting.
I overlooked this month’s water bill. There was a recorded message left for me on Monday but I didn’t get it. This morning my water was turned off ... no problem, I didn’t pay the bill and that was the consequence. But when I went to the city to pay the bill, not only did I have to pay the past due bill, late fee and reconnect fee ($50), I also had to pay an additional $10 fee. And that fee was for what? For the recorded reminder call. A fee for a pre-recorded call?
Assuming that on any given day there are 50 households who receive that reminder call that is an additional $500 into the city’s coffers per day. If that same average applies over the course of one month, that is an additional $15,000. A month! Or an additional $180,000 a year. At that rate they ought to be able to replace the money stolen by last county public works director in no time at all.
When did a courtesy call become a fee-based thing? Come on Pasco, you can do better!
Never miss a local story.
