I am writing to voice my concern about something reported in the April 12 article on Richland school boundaries. In particular, I take offense at how some speakers at the school board meeting characterized Chief Joseph Middle School students and teachers.
Chief Jo is a great school with cool kids, good students and programs, and really great and caring teachers and staff. I know this for a fact, because I'm an eighth-grade student at Chief Jo.
So, unlike the people at the school board meeting who were so quick to trash our school, I actually know what I'm talking about.
Sadly, most of the negative commentary on our school appears to be based on ignorance and prejudice. My advice to students (and parents) that may be affected by boundary changes and have to switch schools is to keep an open mind.
Never miss a local story.
I can understand why it would be difficult to switch after a year of attending another school, but if you're an incoming sixth-grader, Chief Jo is a good option. We have three excellent middle schools in our town and it will all be OK if you just let your prejudice get out of the way.
