I would like to congratulate the Herald for its subtle yet poignant reminder of the plight of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Through the ages, people with IDD have suffered poor and humiliating treatment; indeed, they have been looked down upon as lower than animals.
In this spirit, the Herald's prominent placement of a large photo of a dog on March 24 overshadowed a much smaller photo of the March for Respect, in spite of an entire page already dedicated to pictures of pets.
Individuals with IDD have come a long way in our society, but as the Herald reminds us, they have a long way to go.
