I recently discovered one of the most beautiful hikes I've taken in a very long while, right in our own backyard. I probably should keep it a secret, but I'll share it anyway.
Drive out Meals Road, south of Finley and find a place to hike to the east. Ayers Road is just one option. Further out, B&B Farms has signs saying "Walk in only -- feel free to hunt." (Kudos to them!) Take your camera. In less than a mile in most places you will come to one of the most stunning landscapes in the U.S. The Wallula Gap trail, and much of the pasteur around it, has some truly fantastic shapes and vistas carved by the Ice Age Floods, places that one cannot see from any road. It's well worth the hike.
