Sen. Robert Portman, R-Ohio, has done some soul searching after learning that his own son is gay, and is changing his position to being in favor of same-sex marriage.
Being a senator, it is his job to represent his constituency, which is the entire population of Ohio. There are many other parents of gay children in the state of Ohio. Before deciding to oppose same-sex marriage, he could have interviewed some of those parents, as well as their gay children.
