About 7 p.m. Jan. 17, there was a knock on our door. We weren't expecting anyone, so we opened the door with caution. On the other side was a person who was visibly upset and asking for help.
I began asking questions, trying to get enough information to help this person. While I continued questioning this person, my wife was in the background on the phone with the authorities to get this person some help.
Within minutes two West Richland police officers arrived. The situation didn't start out much different for them than what we had been experiencing for the past 20 minutes, but as time passed, it was apparent these officers were well trained for this type of situation.
Their technique, professionalism and compassion was exactly what was needed to help this innocent and kind person to a safe harbor. We would like to thank the West Richland Police Department for either training these highly skilled officers or hiring them that way.
Never miss a local story.
And a special thanks goes out to the two officers who came to our house that cold dark night and probably saved a person's life.
