Default hazardous sites
I would like to comment on the lack of a hazardous waste disposal facility in Benton County.
While the twice yearly collection events are nice when they work, they turn every home in the county, by default, into a hazardous waste storage facility during the interim. Or longer if the event didn't work out as planned. And probably not one homeowner in 100 is trained for that job. What are the risks associated with storing the waste? What environment is needed to ensure the material does not leak into the groundwater, or worse, into the living areas of our homes? How many of us can afford to provide the proper storage procedures and equipment?
This just seems like a really dangerous situation.
