This past year there have been a lot of articles, studies and opinions about Bechtel's Waste Treatment Plant Project. Constructive assessments and comments are always welcome at WTP.
However, many with non-constructive agendas, and/or misinformation have directed contempt toward Bechtel's efforts.
They also are attacking the professional and moral attributes of the WTP employees. As an employees, many of us are tired of seeing the WTP and our efforts unjustly maligned.
Never miss a local story.
The WTP employees are an integral part of our community. We live next door to the 56 million gallons of highly radioactive waste to be stabilized. We live with the knowledge and sense of urgency to complete the plant in the safest, quickest and most efficient manner.
The massive and complex WTP is state-of-the-art and demands the best of us in a challenging bureaucratic and transparent environment to ensure project success.
As employees, we are not just committed to our work, but to our community, as well. In 2012 the Bechtel/URS and employees donated more than $510,000 to local programs and charities, including continuing to cover around 10 percent of the United Way Fund Raising Goal. We're proud of our work and to be a part of the community.
