-- JONATHAN MCCUNE, Richland
For a charter school, I think there should be a lot of leeway in subject matter and in teaching methods, and students should be allowed to move ahead as they master each subject rather than wait for the rest of the class.
Also, there should not be any restrictions on students referring to God in their subjects or essays or to mention the name Jesus Christ. I believe the restrictions now in place in the public schools are a violation of the students' constitutional rights to free speech. For students to express their faith in God is not an establishment of a religion by the school but is the personal opinion of the student. Students should be allowed to express their personal feelings and faith.
Our constitutional freedoms are being abridged too much.
