SANDIP K. DASVERMA, Richland
We are at a point where even after the re-election victory of President Obama, he is not being allowed the opportunity to fulfill his election pledges on many issues.
I am sure U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings and his colleagues know what they are doing, at least I would like to think so. However, I don't understand how this pledge by Hastings to Grover Norquist supersedes the congressman's pledge to the Constitution of United States. (Grover's organization, American for Tax Reform, is financed $4 million from Crossroads GPS and $4.189 million by The Center to protect Patient Rights, a foundation associated with Koch brothers).
The middle class tax cuts (covering 98 percent of Americans) is now kept hostage to the tax cut for the top 2 percent earners (millionaires and billionaires). We hear all the time about taxes being raised for the job creators. But doesn't the GOP know most jobs are created by small business, 97 percent of which don't earn beyond $250,000?
U.S. Rep. Tom Cole of Oklahoma, a red state, has now come out in favor of the middle class tax cuts. So has Rep. Peter King of New York.
I would like to know what Hastings' position is and does he support tax cuts for the middle class?
If not, why not?
