Time to act
This is tree with many roots politically and economically. I have written extensively for more than 20 years to Doc Hastings and our two senators warning them immigration, both legal and illegal, were big problems and would only get worse if they kept procrastinating. It was like talking to a brick wall. The fix now is much more difficult because immigration is so far out of control, but here is a starting point. 1) stop all immigration for at least three years while you figure out who is here legally, 2) all illegals must register with their county so we know who they are and where they work and they automatically go to the back of the "citizenship line" or "legal/illegal status line" while the county and ICE figure out if they can remain in the U.S. or must be deported. 3) The federal system must be fixed, regulated and simplified so we don't have an infinite number of "status changes" (red cards, blue cards, green cards, etc.) because some people will want to become citizens and some may do temporary work and want to return to their native country. 4) When we do start admitting people it should be limited to the old standard of 250,000 per year and not the current standard of 1,000,000 per year.
There are so many facets to this problem to be worked out, but we need a simple and direct and humane way to get started. As mentioned above this problem would have been much easier to solve back around 1990. The last four presidents, both Republican and Democrat, have kicked the can down the road so many times we now have problems that will be much more difficult to solve.
