HERMAN LIVINGSTON, Finley
This is a challenge to dog owners. I recently visited the Benton-Franklin Humane Society facility in Kennewick and sponsored two dogs for adoption. They are waiting for a good home.
I have a dog and could not take another one. If you already have a dog and can't adopt another, you can still sponsor one so a family can experience the happiness of owning a dog.
Please take this challenge and adopt a dog and give it a good home for Christmas or sponsor one so somebody else can.
Never miss a local story.
The Humane Society has a first-class building, thanks to donations.
There has been much talk about year-round schools throughout the Tri-Cities. The Tri-Cities has grown quite rapidly in the past 15 years and people are questioning whether we should move to year-round schooling or build more schools. The key argument in favor of year-round schooling is the fact of budget. Pasco just spent a great amount of money on a new high school because Pasco High was growing at an incredible rate; should taxpayers be asked to pay more money to build new schools? My answer is yes.
Being a student, summer is the best part of the year and taking that away from some kids will not be a good solution. Also, being on a different track from your friends and having different breaks throughout the year would make school less enjoyable. Yes, of course, we go to school to learn, but being with our friends and peers makes it a much greater experience. Looking at the financial aspect, building new schools would be very expensive -- but paying for schools to be open and operating all year long will eventually add up, too.
In the last election, our hopes for an optimistic future were overtaken by moral losses. One development that should be of concern to all is the legal recognition of same-sex marriage. The redefinition of marriage leads to a loss of traditional Christian culture and moral stability.
Marital love between one man and woman is most wonderful and necessary. It is naturally fruitful and leads to the birth of a new generation. A child needs both mother and father, and nature provides for this need biologically. In comparison, a union of two men or two women does not naturally lead to children or to the true selfless joy of parenthood. Same-sex unions, by nature, are primarily concerned with the needs of the couple, rather than the good of the family or society.
Moral right or wrong is objectively true. Wrong propensities do not make right realities in marriage, any more than the propensity to liquor or drugs make their abuse healthy or good.
Legal sanctions do not make same-sex marriage morally right.
Marriage between one man and one woman brings forth the children who are the heart and soul of the Christmas holidays.
May all families be blessed this Christmas.
Perfect voting record
Wow! Every time I have voted, I have always voted for the right person. No, he didn't always win, but I always have the satisfaction of knowing that I voted for the right person.
