I am concerned as to why I, a 17-year-old student, have had more than $80 deducted from my paycheck every pay period, and I'm still unable to vote.
This year, I was too young to vote in the presidential election, however I still pay tax dollars to fund the programs of our newly re-elected president. This consequently is taxation without representation, and is one of the major problems our country was built to prevent.
I will willingly pay for most government programs, but a problem arises when I have no say which ones my money goes toward. I understand that it is farfetched to expect the Constitution to be amended to allow anyone who pays federal tax the right to vote, but making more people aware of the problem is where I plan to start.
