About 5.4 million people have joined the Social Security Permanent Disability program since June 2009. This figure is twice the job growth figure. About 350 million jobs were created, or about 65 percent of the number who enrolled in the disability program. In other words, 1.9 million more people declared themselves permanently disabled than found jobs during Obama's term.
I don't think Americans are five times more decrepit today than they were in the 1960s but it seems they are five times more willing to "game" the system. This is a symptom of moral rot layered over economic rot. If the jobs were there, I think most of the people would much rather work.
When the "American gospel of Wealth and Success" is increasingly playing second fiddle to entitlement through poverty, we will immediately reach "stall" speed. Just as a bicycle is destined to topple over when it loses forward momentum, so too is our economy.
Never miss a local story.
I cannot believe that raising taxes on the wealthy would motivate them to invest in more employees and facilities. We need employers in order to have employees. What we don't have is a White House and Congress promoting this.
Let's change that. Hurry folks, our bike is wobbling.
