I watched most of both political conventions. What struck me most was the Republicans kept talking about their ancestors -- near and distant -- working hard. I don't know what this has to do with their plans to run the country should they get their candidate elected. Working hard has been the lot of mankind forever.
My grandmother was happy that my young children could be so happy-go-lucky because she remembered her grandmother telling about working in a factory when she was six years old. Working in a factory at age six was not a virtue; it was evidence that the world was very cruel.
