WILLIAM N. LAMPSON, Pasco
As a publicly owned and operated hospital, KGH has always been transparent and collaborative in meeting our community's needs. In the past, voters said no to additional levies to finance a new hospital. KGH listened to public opinion on this issue and responded by working hard to come up with a solid plan that will allow it to build a new facility without increasing taxes.
The private sector financing that KGH secured is innovative but not unprecedented. Others in the health care industry have worked with private sector companies to successfully finance similar projects. In the past six years, KGH has developed a well-supported plan that will work for our community.
We need this new facility, and we should appreciate that KGH has made such a strong effort to comply with citizens' wishes for financing it. Kadlec -- a competitor to KGH -- continues to interfere with KGH's expansion opportunities. This creates unnecessary costs and administrative burdens to both hospitals. Kadlec has its own financial issues and solicits financial support from this community. Kadlec should become a team player with KGH and the entire health care community, not an adversary. The community wants a new hospital and asked KGH to find this solution. KGH should be applauded for this effort, not attacked.
