I have been concerned about what appears to be a decline in the number of birds in the area over the past few weeks. Has anyone else noticed that there aren't the usual numbers of sparrows, finches, starlings and other typical backyard birds lately?
In fact, there aren't many at all. It seems that for the past two months, they have become very scarce, and I am wondering why. I have not observed any news stories about this. No one seems to be discussing it, and nothing seems to be written about it on the internet. Is it my imagination? Does this occur every year and I just didn't notice the other 47 years of my life?
I hope this isn't the "canary in the coal mine" or an indicator of something seriously wrong going on in our environment.
