I would like to applaud the recent decision by two of the Franklin County Commissioners to suspend negotiations with the Pasco Public Facilities District regarding the sale of TRAC. The TRAC is still used as it was intended -- for recreation, agriculture and more. While I am not opposed to an aquatics facility, I do not think that converting TRAC is an appropriate use of either the facility or the taxpayers' dollars.
While TRAC may still lose money, it loses less and less every year -- becoming less of a tax burden. And every year it's being used more and more -- bringing in people who spend money in our community on hotels, food, shopping and more. A water park may bring in folks for a day, but they'll be in and out and not spending money at our local businesses.
Thank you to Rick Miller and Bob Koch for having the foresight to stand up for something that so many are not seeing -- that TRAC should stay TRAC and the aquatics center should be located elsewhere.
