I love our Richland Community Center, and I love our Bridge Buddies. It's time for this lover to express an opinion about the use of our center.
Office space for staff is necessary and important. I'm sure the city also can use the revenue it receives from party and meeting rentals. These should not be curtailed. However, they should never take precedence over the purpose of the center as a place where those of all ages can engage in activities that promote healthy and active bodies and minds.
Certainly, Larry Lang's excellent Bridge Buddies has provided a place where people of any age can pursue an activity that constantly stretches the mind while providing a social outlet.
Never miss a local story.
I suggest a small committee composed of interested citizens and center staff meet to revisit the original mission statement for the center. Perhaps that statement needs to be restated, clarified or fine tuned so serious conflicts can be avoided in the future.
In the meantime, I hope that all parties will refrain from making personal comments and attacks.
The Richland Community Center was conceived and promoted as a place for all ages. What a wonderful concept. Let's be sure it continues to be a place where those of all ages can exercise body and mind in a pleasant, stress-free environment.
