I am thankful for the locally founded Golden Age Food Share at 504 S. Oregon Street in Pasco. A dedicated team of 14 unpaid and hardworking volunteers serve 450 senior citizen households each week.
Their mission is to help meet needs of a sometimes forgotten segment of our community giving low-income seniors the ability to eat and afford their prescription medications instead of having to choose. Dependent on donations, household items, medical equipment and medical supplies are also offered.
Golden Age has valuable partnerships with grocery stores, bakeries, farmers and food processors. The volunteers try to cooperate with other food bank organizations in obtaining their share of regional donations and important government program provisions.
Each summer I am thankful that I have found a good home for my extra garden produce -- especially those monster zucchini squash.
If you are seeking a place to contribute, donate, serve or are interested in visiting a program that is making a difference, I encourage you to call Golden Age Food Share at 547-8310. They are a real blessing to many in Franklin County.
