No, they should not be stalled. There is already a site picked for disposal, if special interest politics would let it proceed. I believe new plants producing more power would put pressure on those special interests to allow the site proposal to proceed. The Supreme Court has all but said that process is being held up illegally.
The glassification process for containing nuclear waste is in the process of being built. If this country thinks it can just run up the bill printing funny money to pay for energy needs, the country will one day go bankrupt and China will be licking its chops ready to call in our debts that we will be unable to pay.
It is criminal to not use our resources to provide energy needs to a constantly growing population competing with the rest of the world. It is also unrealistic to believe that every Snail Darter or Spotted Owl can be saved while it costs so dearly to save them at the expense of lost jobs and economy.
I predict that before one resource is completely used up, it will be necessary to restart using others like coal to supplement what is left. Wind and solar have not proven to be substantial enough and wind in particular is certainly not "green" as far as being natural to see dozens of wind machines polluting the skyline while producing relatively little power.
Never miss a local story.
