According to a study conducted by the University of Michigan, overweight and obese young adults are the most targeted age group of bullying. I experienced this firsthand. Not only did that make us feel judged, worthless, depressed and anxious, it deprived us from what teens would call, "the high school experience."
It makes me sick to my stomach that youth in today's society do not make the conscious decision to stand up for anyone who is out of the cookie-cutter mold. Is it a parenting failure or a failure of today's society?
Just because we have a different body mold or style about us, does not make us worthless. We have value, a place in society, and no, we do not sit at home collecting Social Security and disability checks. We work just as hard as any other red-blooded American, and we intend to keep it that way. Without the judgments of others.
