Thanks for selecting Tom Baker's recommendation to amend the U.S. Constitution limiting the president to a single six year term as "Your Letter Best" on Aug. 5.
My friends and I recently came to that same conclusion, and I'm glad that Tom stated it so eloquently. I hope his letter sparked more discussion in the public realm.
I heard recently that the presidential campaigns raised more than $175 million just last month with estimates of well over $1 billion before November! This money could have helped create good jobs in America so more workers could afford to feed, house and educate their families, as well as pay their fair share of taxes, allowing us to eventually return to a balanced budget and pay down our national debt.
Allowing the president to concentrate on doing his or her job instead of also campaigning may well allow such things to happen. For proof, look at the second term of President Clinton, where all of the above transpired. Regardless of your party affiliation, Tom Baker's suggestion makes sense. I don't know the next steps, but I'm sure there are a lot of people who agree with it and would help make it happen. Count me in!
