In response to Mike Mehren's letter on July 4, "Veteran's discount." I am sure others agree with his thinking. A few weeks ago, my wife and I were in Home Depot purchasing a freezer that was on sale.
The clerk helping us started the paper work and asked me if I had ever been in the military. I told her I served in the Navy in the 1950s. She said it didn't matter. If I could show proof, they would give another 10 percent, which was a $48 discount. I told her I quit carrying my discharge card, but it was at home, and she said they'd take my word for it.
We were told that Home Depot, Lowe's and many other retailers offer the same discount but don't advertise it. It was the first time we heard of it.
