The recent article on the Regional Public Facilities District states that the consultant Hovee said about the proposed Performing Arts Center, "... the larger theater could be too large for anything other than national touring shows." This indicates that Mr. Hovee believes that local performing arts groups would neither require nor could fill a large theater. This is selling our community short!
In recent years, the audience for the Mid-Columbia Ballet's Nutcracker would fill a 2500-seat theater 3-4 times over. The audience for the Richland Light Opera Company production of Annie would have filled it twice and both runs of Peter Pan would have filled it five times. Eight other productions have had audiences that would fill such a theater 11 times.
