Jim Davison of Waitsburg recently wrote the editor of the Tri-City Herald regarding President Obama's intention to enforce parts of the dream Act "Current events," June 26).
He reported a trio of undocumented gang members were arrested on gun and drug charges, and the Walla Walla Undersheriff Edward Freyer questioned the possibility of remaining in the United States under the Dream Act.
The proposed Dream Act clearly states individuals must graduate from high school, enroll in a two- or four-year educational institution or enter the military. In addition, they also must have good moral character and a record free of any convictions for major crimes or drug offenses. Any infractions would result in the deportation process.
Often, people slant the facts with political issues for their own agenda. The underlying tone of much of the debate over the DREAM Act speaks to the rising prejudice in this country for any nationality.
This kind mindset is taught and should be eradicated. Do your own research into the Dream Act. Gaining knowledge before the next presidential election will better prepare you to vote the facts rather than someone's personal agenda.
