Case one: Four teenagers pull into a 7-11 late one night for a Coke. One idiot decides to pull out his father's gun (that he stole from his father's dresser) and robs the place. Who gets arrested? The one idiot kid, all four, the father? Law enforcement or the court will decide if the other three didn't know what was taking place. Case two: You have parents that decide to flee the poverty and the violence of their country by crossing the border with their small children. The parents broke federal law and are therefore criminals. What about the children? Are they accessories to a crime? Are they criminals? Legally, yes. Knee-jerk reaction, no. If you deport the parents, what happens to the children? Does compassion win out or the Rule of Law.
Unfortunately, we have an administration that picks and chooses what laws they like and ignore the other laws passed by Congress. Unfortunately, there is no easy answer.
