Of the many things I learned from my dad, the one that stands out the most is that true character is about what you do when nobody is looking.
Time and time again I saw that my dad was always honest and tried to do the right thing, even if there was a personal cost involved. If he was selling something, he told potential buyers not only about the good, but also about any bad things he knew about. He taught me about honor and integrity less by "talking the talk" and more by "walking the walk." I am proud to use these lessons with my own children, and pleased that by doing so, my dad's influence will reach future generations.
Growing up, my heroes were never sports figures or other celebrities. My hero was my dad, and still is. He is a retired Air Force officer and the most truly honorable and honest man I have ever known.
