I'm grateful for those who fought in WWII and the sacrifices they made for our country.
In the Northwest, M. Paul Fujihara was recently awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, posthumously, for his service in the Military Intelligence Service of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team.
That group, made up largely of Japanese-Americans, received more medals for valor and more Purple Hearts than any other combat group in WWII.
Paul's wife, Uta, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many of whom live in the Tri-Cities, are justifiably proud of his award.
Never miss a local story.
Paul worked as a fisheries scientist in the Biology Department at Hanford for General Electric and Battelle Northwest.
Congratulations, Uta and family. Thanks.
