There are days when I think it would be a good idea if I stopped reading the news because when I read that Washington law now requires shelters to notify parents within 12 hours instead of the 72 hours needed to allow agencies like Safe Harbor Crisis Nursery to evaluate claims of abuse, I could hardly believe it. What are those people thinking?
It seems to me that when we often hear of the abuse and molestation of children even younger than teens, we need to get help for those who make such decisions. It's incredible! As citizens, we (me included) need to spread the news that our kids are the most precious "things" we have.
We must, as a community, support Safe Harbor and others who are attempting to make places and laws that give the disadvantaged children around us the help they need when they need it.
We know how to do such needed projects and gracious ways to help. Let's not let the government ruin the good Safe Harbor is doing.
Never miss a local story.
